Congratulations. This sounds wonderful!

I do have a question though. I'm from Canada and I keep hearing about government cheese. What exactly is that? I'm pretty sure we have nothing comparable up here.

The really great thing is that untitledson will not grow up with a sense of entitlement despite having nice things because you are such a grounded person. I admire you for this post and really appreciated your post about running into an old high school classmate at the community center.

Funny, isn't it, people's reactions? Here's my piece of unasked-for advice: Try to remember that it is all about them, it isn't about anything you did.

I wish you much joy and peace and happiness and fun in your new house. Go for the double-pane windows. They'll pay for themselves in no time.

Enjoy your house, you've earned it, you deserve it, and don't let your mother's jealousy overshadow that. Be sure to let untitledson know how lucky he is live in a house like that and what it takes to make a life like that happen.

A few years ago most of my friends and their kids moved up to impressive, bigger and better houses, and my kids were old enough to notice and wonder about it. I told them we were comfortable in the house we were in and that it was paid for, that we were using our money now to send them to private school and to save for college. I didn't think they'd get it, but they did. So when they comment on how nice their friends houses are, I agree with them, but I also remind them how lucky they are and that the most important thing about a house is that it's filled with love.

Been there, done that. Grew up EXTREMELY poor in a house where children were mistreated in every way. Every. Flash forward after years of struggle at age 34 moved into a beautiful, big-ass house that just made me catch my breath every time I came in the door.

You are always going to have a tumult of feelings about this house, but don't ever forget to just enjoy the hell out of it. Live it up.

You are going through the same as we did. My mother was supportive but hubbys parents were pitiful. Always found a way to cast a negative view on any of our accomplishments. Hubby is now 51 and still needs the approval of his brothers who are alot like their parents...really sad...hope you can truly get past the nay sayers and enjoy life...it is waaaay too short to let the bastards get you down!
