Kiss your afternoon goodbye, people.

Being that it’s Friday and all, I feel compelled to share with you the evil temptresses that keep me from doing my job on a daily basis. I could be right in the middle of a critical process when all of a sudden, the Internet gnomes strike. From out the DVD drive they come, dancing a jig and singing their siren song.

Now I may be weak, but I am not stupid. I keep one ear to ground, ready to click back to some mind-numbing Excel doc, just in case someone eyeballs my screen or god forbid, stops by my cube for something work-related.

I feel so guilty, so whoreish, but I… cannot… stop. And what’s more - I have no desire to stop. So there.

1. www.celebrity-babies.com. I check this site, like, five times a day. Why do I even care about famous people’s children? I have no idea. All I know is… I am bound to this site. I think it’s hormonal.

2. www.lifehacker.com. My quest for doing all things a bit better and a bit quicker begins right here. How ironic that this productivity web site prevents me from being productive.

3. www.coolhunting.com. They were country when country wasn’t cool. Be prepared to sit a spell - this one will suck you in.

There now — that’s four hours you’ll never get back. Just make sure you have a cover doc running in the background, in case an emergency click is needed.

And now it’s time to come clean…what are YOUR online guilty pleasures? You must share - we have a Friday afternoon to fill here.

I’m an Apple geek, what do you expect:

    http://www.macbytes.com
    http://macrumors.com
    http://www.macosxhints.com
    http://www.engadget.com

And for some starnge reason, sveral times a day, I find myself checking the weather:

    http://www.weather.com

The first thing I do when I get on my computer is go down my blogroll and read everyone. First thing. When that involves clicking links given and whatnot, that can take forever.
Another funny site is http://www.thesuperficial.com and I spend too much time on it. Celebrity gossip is amazing.
http://www.3hive.com is cool for free downloading of music [that is LEGAL!].
And finally porn. Anything porn. And very sneaky of you, untitled, to try to get us to give you our favorite porn sites….very sneaky indeed.

  3. 3 untitledhusband

speaking of guilty pleasure celebrity gossip-porn, untitled forgot to mention her DAILY visits to http://www.perezhilton.com.

i have the history file on this computer to prove it.

Oh the guilty pleasures of Friday! Like John, I check out all my sidebar stuff. Then I go over to http://www.thepeevery.com and laugh my ass off. After that, I’m all over: http://www.onlytuesday.com where I’ll sit and play Mah Jong for the next 7.5 hrs. Although, now that I’ve found your site, I’ve cut back on Mah Jong a bit!

When I’m not lost in blogosphere and really want to engage in a guilty pleasure and completely waste my time, I make wish lists at Sephora.com. They don’t ship to Belgium so this is SAFE–I can’t order anything. For a while I can pretend I’m a makeup artist or fantasize that with the right products, I could look airbrushed and flaw free. No laughing out loud.

Well, first of all, I go to untitled.com and I shrink the window to the point where you can’t see the side coloring. So it looks like I’m reading/working on a word doc - anyone else do that?

Second, like Mike, I check weather.com because when you live in post-Katrina New Orleans, you gotta click on Hurricane Central to put your paranoid mind at ease that Hurricane Delta Delta Delta hasn’t somehow formed right off your coast, even though the northern Gulf water temperature isn’t the required 80 degrees anymore.

Third, I go to Pottery Barn, and stare at the 84′ brown suede curtains that my husband has given me permission to purchase. Because I am ALLOWED to buy them now, I find myself procrastinating. Maybe he’s finally figured me out.

    Guilty pleasures include:

    2. http://www.poethelena.com/

    4. http://www.citizenofthemonth.com/
    5. http://gofugyourself.typepad.com/go_fug_yourself/

That is on top of playing Texas Hold ‘Em at PokerStars.net! And all the blogs that I visit religously each day that are too numerous to mention, except Untitled of course!

  8. 8 Cherri

I visit my daughter-in-law’s blog several times a day. She loves researching everything and has started a help column. Just go to http://www.askcindy.blogspot.com with questions about anything.

  13. 13 Trent

    It depends on my mood…
    http://www.fark.com if I’m feeling sarcastic
    http://www.dooce.com if I’m feeling sentimental
    http://www.pitchforkmedia.com or http://www.salon.com if I’m feeling elitist
    http://www.lifehacker.com if I’m feeling unproductive
http://www.longhairedchild.com if I feel like bloviating
    http://www.dailykos.com if I’m feeling political

The list goes on… it really depends on my mood.

The internet is not forbidden at my work simply because they have blocked anything even remotely fun or give you 1 hour in 10 minute increments to shop. So what I can access and do spend much time on (other then my online classes to finish my bachelors) go like this:

http://www.dooce.com (of course dooce gets first mention- really she is how i found you)
http://www.untitledlife.com (well it would be rude if i left out that you are second on my list!)
http://www.ebay.com (and oddly this is not considered shopping - so many hours are wasted here)
    http://www.slate.com

and of course i check my email many many many times to continually see that the only people wishing to talk to me want to enlarge my penis and i don’t even have one!!!

  15. 15 Dy-Anne

oh yeah i forgot to point out that i am not procrstinating when i am on the internet- I am an Emergency Medical Dispatcher so when the phone rings or a paramedic crew calls on the radio i have no choice but to anwser them– for some reason people like to breathe — its strange and really irritating if i am in a shopping page and then it times out while i am helping to maybe save somebodys life ( though usually i am not — its just gramma fell and can’t get up)

  16. 16 Nicole

I would have to ditto: gofugyourself.com
It’s funny, trashy and perfect for distracting yourself from mindless Excel sheets!

    Also http://www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com/index.php
I guess you’d kind of have to be a fan of romance novels, but I find them completely entertaining even when talking about books I’ve never read.

Most of the other ones have already been listed (dooce & such)

The only thing I miss about the office job I recently lost was the internet time!

  17. 17 Lee

This site is one of the funniest I’ve ever seen. I almost won’t read it at work, I laugh so hard, I cry. I can’t stop myself.

Hi I just found your blog and LOVE IT. I go to the one above and waste entirely too much time there a day. And to give my own self advertising LOL, I just founded my blog, so I’m always on it trying to tinker away at it. I’m still new and if any one wants to help me, I’m open to ideas!! I love your blog!!

Shh.. don’t tell anyone. I love the bitter dlisted. I couldn’t live without EBAY. I visit the clearance racks for the GAP and BANANA REPUBLIC and URBAN OUTFITTERS and J Crewall the time. Oh, and of course, DOOCE makes me laugh out loud! For a somber few moments, I check PostSecret every Monday…

    Guilty as charged!
